Deadly DUI Crash Leads To Homicide Arrest

Police arrested a woman suspected in a felony DUI after a rollover crash on U.S. Route 101 near Petaluma left one passenger dead.

PETALUMA, CA — A woman was taken into custody Tuesday by the California Highway Patrol on suspicion of homicide and DUI after a solo car crash in Petaluma last week killed one passenger.

On Wednesday evening, CHP officers responded to a rollover crash on Highway 101 just south of Petaluma Boulevard South. A BMW was found off the roadway with two passengers ejected from the vehicle and the driver inside.

A female passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and a second passenger were taken to a hospital with major injuries.

A preliminary investigation showed that the driver lost control while traveling southbound on the highway. Speed and wet road conditions were likely contributing factors in the crash.

Further investigation revealed that the driver was allegedly under the influence at the time of the crash. She had a prior DUI crash and arrest in 2022, according to CHP.
