Man Brandishing Knife Arrested After Property Dispute: Police

The 29-year-old has a prior criminal record of weapons violations, officials said.

PETALUMA, CA – A homeless man was taken into custody over the weekend near Payran Street and Lindberg Lane in Petaluma after a fight where he allegedly using a knife to threaten individuals, according to authorities.

Officers were called Saturday at 12:25 p.m. after the suspect, later identified as Gabriel Perez, 29, purportedly confronted residents, at least one inside a motorhome, in an altercation stemming from "some sort of property dispute" and in which one victim was in fear of being stabbed, the Petaluma Police Department said today.

Perez, on a felony pretrial release for a prior weapons violation and prohibited from possessing any weapons, attempted to hide behind a truck from police, but was ordered to the ground at gunpoint by an officer and subsequently arrested, the department said.

A knife matching the one reportedly wielded by Perez was found in the truck bed, police said.

"Perez denied brandishing a knife at the victim, however, the victims report that Perez had displayed the knife in a threatening manner," the agency said.

Perez was arrested for suspected exhibition of a deadly weapon and probation violation, transported and booked at the Sonoma County Jail.
