Man Suffers Broken Leg, Other Jailed For Assault In Petaluma: PD

An argument escalated at the Mary Isaak Center, police said.

PETALUMA, CA — An argument between two men Monday night at the Marky Isaak Center ended when one went to jail for suspected assault with a deadly weapon and the other went to the hospital for treatment of a broken leg, police said.

A 911 call came in just before 7 p.m. Monday about the argument that had escalated at the temporary homeless shelter on Hopper Street.

The police investigation revealed Kyle Kruger, 28, and the victim were in an argument when Kruger threw a rock and other items at the other man, Petaluma police Sgt. Patrick Gerke said.

When the victim avoided being hit, Kruger got into his car and drove over the victim's nearby bicycle, Gerke said.

"After driving over the victim’s bicycle, Kruger began to drive at a high rate of speed towards the victim," Gerke said. "In order to escape from Kruger, the victim began climbing over a nearby fence. As the victim was climbing over the fence Kruger struck the fence with his vehicle. The force of the collision caused the victim to fall to the ground, which resulted in the victim injuring his leg."

Kruger drove away from the center before police arrived so officers searched the area.

An officer spotter Kruger driving on Washington Street and pulled him over at Keller Street and took him into custody.

"The victim was admitted to a local hospital for a broken right leg," Gerke said.

Kruger remained behind bars Tuesday morning at Sonoma County jail; his bail was set at $30,000.
