Meeting Thursday: Petaluma Plans Major Changes On Key Southeast Corridors

PETALUMA, CA — City projects aim to improve streets for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians, with completion targeted for 2027

Petaluma is moving forward with comprehensive safety and pavement upgrades along two key southeast corridors, Caulfield Lane and Ely Boulevard South, city officials said.

The Caulfield Lane project will stretch from Payran Street to Garfield Drive and include pavement reconstruction, resurfacing, protected and buffered bike lanes, accessible curb ramps at all intersections, and improved safety at key intersections.

The Ely Boulevard South project, from East Washington Street to Frates Road, will feature pavement resurfacing, buffered bike lanes, upgraded crosswalks, and safety-focused intersection improvements.

City officials are inviting the public to provide input on the projects. A community meeting will be held on Thursday, from 6–8 p.m. at the Petaluma Community Center, followed by a Pedestrian/Bicycle Advisory Committee meeting on Wednesday, March 4, at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall. A City Council meeting date will be announced.

Both projects are currently in the planning and design phase, with completion targeted for Fall 2027. Funding for Caulfield Lane totals $3.35 million, combining Sonoma County Transportation Authority grants and local funds. In contrast, Ely Boulevard South is funded through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Safe Streets and Roads for All program.
