Petaluma: Bring Old Medications Out For Safe Disposal
Residents can safely dispose of expired medications during national take-back event. Check the list first.
PETALUMA, CA — Thousands of households have dozens of them, sitting long after the expiration date in bathroom cabinets and stuffed away in drawers — leftover medications.
Petaluma residents can safely discard unused prescriptions at an April 25 take-back event.
The event is part of a nationwide DEA Drug Take Back Day. Staff will accept drop-offs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in front of the Petaluma Police Department, giving residents a safe and responsible way to dispose of prescription drugs.

Organizers say the event helps prevent misuse, accidental poisoning, and environmental harm caused by improper disposal. They encourage residents to bring medications in their original containers or sealed plastic bags and to review a list of accepted items before arriving.
Residents who cannot attend the event can still dispose of medications year-round using a secure drop-off bin located in the department lobby during regular business hours.
