Petaluma PD Detective Celebrates 33 Years In Law Enforcement

Det. Robert Barnes has worked in several specialty roles after starting his career with the Petaluma Police Department in 1987.

PETALUMA, CA — Petaluma Police detective Robert Barnes is celebrating his 33rd year in law enforcement this week. Barnes is currently assigned to the Northern California Computer Crimes Task Force and is responsible for solving high-profile cases that involve his skills working in cybersecurity and investigations.

Barnes began his career in 1987 with the Petaluma Police Department as a reserve officer and worked in that role until 1994 when he was promoted to a full-time patrol officer. During his law enforcement career, Barnes has worked several specialty assignments including as a field training officer, crime scene investigator, detective, SWAT sniper, taser instructor and range master.
