Petaluma PD Releases Results of Friday's DUI Checkpoints

Several arrests made - five for suspected drunken driving (only one from Petaluma), others for various violations.

From the Petaluma Police Department:

On Friday night January 9, 2015, between the hours of 6:00pm and 2:00am Saturday morning, the Petaluma Police Department conducted two DUI and Driver’s License Checkpoints in Petaluma.

The first checkpoint was set up to screen N/B drivers on Petaluma Blvd North at Gossage Ave from 6pm to 9pm. The second checkpoint was set up to screen E/B drivers on East Washington at Lakeville Street between 10pm and 2am.

The purpose of the checkpoint operation was to raise public awareness about the dangers associated with impaired driving and to take enforcement action against impaired drivers and those driving with a suspended license or no license at all.

The checkpoints reported the following results:

1261 vehicles went through the checkpoints

906 drivers screened by officers for signs of DUI and license checks

53 drivers directed into nearby parking area for further investigation.

36 drivers were administered Field Sobriety Tests

5 drivers arrested for DUI

9 drivers were arrested for other violations

3 drivers arrested for driving with a suspended license

6 drivers arrested were for driving without a license

3 vehicle was towed from the checkpoint

3 vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

Francisco Padilla-Higuera, 44 Years, Santa Rosa Resident, DUI Probation Violation, Had Been Drinking

Funding for these operations has been provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
