Petaluma Police Arrest Napa Man In Fatal Downtown Stabbing

BREAKING: Police say a Napa man is suspected of murder in the Sept. 10 death of 24-year-old Windsor man Cristian Nunez-Castro.

PETALUMA, CA — Petaluma police announced an arrest Thursday in the fatal stabbing two months ago of a Windsor resident in downtown Petaluma. Bryan Daniel Webster, 25, of Napa was arrested on suspicion of homicide early Thursday morning at his residence in the 1200 block of Tamalpais Street in Napa, a police lieutenant said in a news release late Thursday afternoon.

Webster has been charged on suspicion of murder in the death of Windsor man Cristian Nunez-Castro, 24, Petaluma police Lt. Tim Lyons said.

Nunez-Castro was stabbed at about 1:40 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 10 during an altercation in the 100 block of Kentucky Street, according to police. Officers responded to the Golden Concourse, a pedestrian walkway between Kentucky and Keller streets, where they found Nunez-Castro suffering from stab wounds.

Webster's arrest comes after Petaluma police detectives developed several leads in the case over the past few weeks, Lyons said. Personnel with the Napa Police Department and Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety assisted with the arrest of Webster, which took place at 1:53 a.m. Thursday, Lyons said.

Jail records show Webster was booked into the main Sonoma County Jail in Santa Rosa at 10:53 a.m. Thursday. He is being held without bail, with his arraignment scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Monday.

The fatal downtown stabbing, which occurred as nearby bars and nightclubs were closing for the night, was among multiple incidents that led Petaluma police to increase patrols in the downtown area.

As Petaluma police sought to solve the crime, they appealed to the greater North Bay community for information.

Friday morning, police could not immediately be reached for details about the events leading up to Webster's arrest.

Petaluma police are still seeking information in the case; anyone with knowledge pertinent to the investigation is asked to call Detective Walt Spiller at 707-778-4372.
