Possible Attempted Kidnapping Investigated In Petaluma

A 14-year-old girl reported that a man grabbed her arm and told her to "come on" but she kicked him and was able to pull away, police said.

PETALUMA, CA — A possible attempted kidnapping is being investigated in Petaluma, police said.

Officers responded at 7:30 p.m. Thursday to a report that a 14-year-old girl was walking alone southbound on Stanley Street, near Baker Street, when she heard a car approaching her from behind, police said.

The teenager told police she was walking in the road, and stepped out of the way when she saw a dark tan four-door sedan with a flat roof pull up next to her.

The victim told police the passenger of the car got out and grabbed her by her left arm and told her to "come on."

She described the passenger as a 5-foot-8-inch Hispanic man in his mid 20s who weighed about 170 pounds, had dark hair and was wearing dark clothes.

The victim told police she kicked the man in the leg and pulled away from him, at which time he got back into the car.

The car drove eastbound on Stanley Street.

The victim said she did not know the man, nor did she know the man driving the car, whom she described as a Hispanic man in his mid to late 20s who had black hair and was wearing a blue jacket and a red flannel shirt, with a black windbreaker over the flannel shirt.

The victim was not injured in the incident, and she continued walking to her home which was nearby.

Police said there was a 40-minute delay before the incident was reported. Officers responded at that time and searched the area for the car but did not find one that matched the description.

Officers were also checking the area for any surveillance-camera footage, as well as attempting to locate any possible witnesses.
