Sawmill Fire: Containment Advances to 75% [UPDATE]

BREAKING: Cause of the blaze in Sonoma County under investigation.

UPDATE, TUESDAY, SEPT. 27, 6:25 p.m. SONOMA COUNTY, CA – Containment on the Sawmill Fire, burning since Sunday in unincorporated Sonoma County, has advanced this evening to 75 percent, according to Cal Fire.

Firefighters at the scene total 717, with 1,500 acres consumed, the agency said.

"Firefighters continue to mop up and patrol the fire perimeter," Cal Fire said.

The wildfire broke out Sunday morning near Geysers and Geysers Resort roads, about 10 miles east of Cloverdale, Cal Fire spokeswoman Christina Barker said.

Two minor injuries were reported, but no structures were damaged, Barker said.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA – The Sawmill Fire is holding at 1,500 acres and containment advanced to 55 percent, officials said this morning.

"Firefighters made good progress overnight increasing the containment line and are working on pockets of unburned fuel within the fire perimeter," Cal Fire said. "Firefighters will continue to work on constructing and improving the fire line. Temperatures are expected to remain high throughout the day."

The wildfire in unincorporated Sonoma County began Sunday morning, near Geysers and Geysers Resort roads, about 10 miles east of Cloverdale, Cal Fire spokeswoman Christina Barker said.

Firefighters at the scene now number 1,033, with assistance from CAL PINE, Napa County Fire, Cloverdale FPD, Geyserville FPD, Healdsburg FD, Windsor FPD, Sonoma and Lake County Sheriff's Office, CA Highway Patrol, Red Cross, CA Dept. of Corrections and Rehabilitation, North Bay Incident Management Team and Sonoma County Animal Services.

All mandatory evacuation orders and road closures were lifted as of 6 p.m. Monday. Twenty to 30 homes were evacuated on the Cloverdale side of Geysers Road from Pine Mountain Road to Geysers Resort Road. A shelter was set up at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church at 1402 University St. in Healdsburg, Sonoma County sheriff's officials said.
