Solano County Teens Busted In Hotel Car Burglary: Petaluma Police
Police say the crime was quickly solved thanks to a citizen who reported it.
PETALUMA, CA — Three teenage boys from Solano County are accused of breaking into a car at a Petaluma hotel early Saturday morning, a Petaluma police sergeant said. Officers were dispatched at 12:45 a.m. May 2 to a report of vehicle burglary in progress at Hampton Inn & Suites, 409 Wilson St., Petaluma police Sgt. Nick McGowan said.
"The suspects fled southbound on Lakeville Street in a silver Audi," McGowan said. "Officers responded to the area and confirmed a hotel guest’s vehicle window was shattered and her suitcase was stolen."
The Audi was soon spotted about a mile away with the headlights turned off, driving through the parking lot of a different Petaluma hotel— the Sheraton — police said.

In a traffic stop of the Audi, officers noticed a blue suitcase in the back seat that matched the description of the one that was stolen, the sergeant said.
Officers detained the three teens — two 16-year-olds and one 17-year-old — and after confirming their identities as Solano County residents, took them to Sonoma County Juvenile Hall.

All three were booked on suspicion of burglary and failure to comply with the county quarantine ordinance, McGowan said.
The Petaluma Police Department thanks a "citizen informant for providing actionable information about a crime in progress," McGowan said.
All community members are encouraged to report suspicious activity immediately by calling the department's non-emergency line at or 911, he said.
