St. Vincent High School Students Report Suspicious Post: Petaluma PD

The private school in Petaluma canceled classes Thursday. Police were investigating the threat and did not believe it was credible.

PETALUMA, CA — Classes were canceled Thursday at St. Vincent De Paul High School in Petaluma because of a suspicious social media post, police said.

School administrators called the Petaluma Police Department around 8 p.m. Wednesday to report that two students received a social media post that contained images of guns and references to a gun shooting, Petaluma police Lt. Tim Lyons said in a news release.

"The social media posts did not reference any schools or any location in Petaluma," Lyons said. "The police department does not believe there is any credible threat to schools in Petaluma."

St. Vincent High School decided to cancel classes Thursday and the case was forwarded to Petaluma Police Department's Investigations Unit for further investigation, the sergeant said.

There was a similar case in June in Petaluma where a post originated out of state and resulted in a suspect being arrested on suspicion of creating the post. The investigation revealed the post referenced a Casa Grande school in Arizona, not Casa Grande High School in Petaluma, authorities said.
