UPDATE Solano Co. Kidnapping: Cops Confirm Ransom Demand

Vallejo police are working with the FBI and are asking for the public’s help in finding a woman who was reportedly kidnapped from a Mare Island home early Monday morning, police said at a news conference this morning.

Hours later, at 1:55 p.m. Monday, a man reported that 30-year-old Denise Huskins had been taken against her will from a residence in the 500 block of Kirkland Avenue near the former Mare Island Naval Base, according to police.

During this morning’s news conference, police said that roughly 75 people are involved in a search-and-rescue effort near the scene of the crime. Authorities are treating the case as a kidnapping and ransom, according to Vallejo police Lt. Kenny Park.

Park repeatedly told reporters that he either did not have answers to specific questions or could not disclose certain information because of the ongoing nature of the investigation. “All I can tell you is that there was a ransom demand,” Park said.

Park did not provide reporters with information about possible suspects or a suspect vehicle, but did say that Huskins’ Toyota Camry has been found at an undisclosed location in Vallejo.

Police believe the car had been taken from the home. Reporters in attendance inquired about the 30-year-old man who reported the kidnapping, his identity and why he didn’t call police sooner.

“At this point he’s not a suspect so we’re not going to be releasing his name,” Park said. “We’re doing everything we can, but at this point I’m not at liberty to divulge too much information,” Park said.
