A residential seismic retrofit strengthens an existing older house, making it more resistant to earthquake activity such as ground shaking and soil failure. The seismic retrofitting involves bolting the house to its foundation and adding bracing around the perimeter of the crawl space.

About the Organizations
The California Residential Mitigation Program (CRMP) was established in 2011 and is a joint powers authority created by the California Earthquake Authority and the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services. This program, the Earthquake Brace + Bolt, is the first incentive program offered by CRMP.
