Bay Area Home Prices Continue to Increase
Anian Tunney, Piedmont CA real estate agent broker associate discusses local real estate maraket.

Bay Area real estate continues to be a seller’s market, with February posting an 11.4 percent increase in median home prices compared to a year earlier. This is according to CoreLogic.(1) Alameda County saw a 12.3 percent gain over last year, and Santa Clara county went up 11.4 percent from a year ago, reaching a median price of $960,000. This figure is only 4 percent less than it’s $1 million peak in the spring of 2016.
Oakland homes move the quickest off the market with an average of 15 days, while San Jose homes stay on the market for 21 days and San Francisco homes average 28 days on the market. Because of this, it continues to be very challenging for buyers to find homes in the Bay Area.
Homes also consistently sell for over asking. In San Jose, 63 percent of the homes sold for over asking, 62 percent of San Francisco’s homes sell for over asking, and Oakland’s homes sell over asking 59 percent of the time. The stunning English Tudor, located at 123 Wildwood Gardens in Piedmont, offered at $4,195,000, sold in one day for over asking.
