Bay Area Housing Costs Based on BART Stop

Anian Tunney, Oakland Piedmont real estate agent broker associate shares article about Bay Area housing costs based on nearest BART station.

According to Venture Beat, the online news site specializing in technical news, the price range per square foot for housing around the Bay Area, based on the closest BART stop, ranges from $219 per square foot in Pittsburg to $1,191 per square foot near the Embarcadero San Francisco stop. (1) Generally speaking the farther away the BART stop is from San Francisco, the lower the price per square foot, but this is not a hard and fast rule.

Looking at the diagram,(2) the Oakland Colliseum stop shows $200 per square foot, which is less than Fremont at $490 per square foot which is quite a bit farther out from San Francisco.

Taking a look at the CalTrain stops, if you want to live in Palo Alto, the cost per square foot is $1,630, substantially more than San Francisco. Gilroy, which is at the end of the CalTrain line, goes for $314 per square foot, but is a 2 hour train ride into San Francisco.
