Bay Area Population Growth Slowing
Anian Tunney, Piedmont CA real estate agent broker associate shares U.S. Census information about local population growth

According to new data from the U.S. Census, several Bay Area counties are showing more people leaving than moving in.(1) While the overall Bay Area population grew .7 percent from July 1, 2015 to June 30, 2016, Marin, San Mateo and Santa Clara counties saw a decline in population growth. While job growth has slowed, the region is not experiencing job losses or increasing unemployment.
Job growth may be slowing, but the demand for housing continues to outpace supply, causing the local housing prices to hold firm and increase year-over-year. People move here for work, but some become reluctant to take on the risk of such an expensive home in relation to their income.
Yet those who have been in the Bay Area for a while, and purchased their home 10-20 years ago, experience the benefit of the increasing value of their home and are able to comfortably stay because their relative housing cost is lower than it is for people newly entering the market. 24 Marlborough Court in Piedmont is a magical Mediterranean on quiet cul-de-sac, offered at $2,995,000.
