The 2-year-old was chasing his ball when he was hit.
OAKLAND, CA — It's a nightmare for the family, for the bus driver, and for every first responder who rushed to the scene Tuesday when a little boy was hit by an AC Transit bus.
Two-year-old Jeremiah Esera chased after his ball when it went into the street. The exuberant toddler only had eyes for his ball and didn't notice the bus coming toward him. Jeremiah was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash happened on 35th Avenue near Penniman Avenue hit the child shortly before 2 p.m.

One of the first responders, Oakland Police Area 4 Commander Nishant Joshi, has started a Go Fund Me account to help the family. He wrote in the appeal, "I met with Jeremiah's family. Understandably, they were devastated. As a parent myself, I cannot imagine the pain they are going through."
The fund is seeking $25,000. Joshi continued, "The money raised will be used to help with funeral arrangements and any other needs the family will have. We hope to raise the money as soon as possible. I believe the services will occur on September 23, 2016. So, time is of the essence."
