New Residential High Rises Planned and Under Construction in Oakland for 2017 and 2018

According to the San Francisco Business Times article, “Mapped: Here’s where Oakland’s new wave of 20 towers is rising”(1) two of the several residential projects that have begun construction are by Lennar Multifamily Communities and Gerding Edlen. The Lennar site is located at 1640 Broadway, and will be a 254 unit 33 story tower. The architect is Solomon Cordwell Buenz. The Gerdling Edlen site is located at 1700 Webster Street and will have 206 units and will be 20 stories tall.

Several of the other residential projects that are will begin construction soon include the MacArthur Transit Village Parcel B, located at 532 39th Street. It ill have 402 residential units, including 45 on-site affordable units in a 260-foot tower. The developer is Boston Properties, Solomon Cordwell Buenz is the architect, and groundbreaking is scheduled for the second quarter of 2018. Another project is located at 2270 Broadway, will be a 24-story tower with 223 residential units and 6,000 sqft of retail. Groundbreaking is planned for the end of 2017. The developers are Hines, Invesco, and the architect is MBH Architects.

Two stalled projects, which have already been approved, include 1900 Broadway and 250 14th Street. Both projects are reported still seeking financing. The first will have 451 residential units and will be 36 stories tall and will be located next to the 19th Street BART station. The second will have 126 units and will be 16 stories tall. The developer is Bay Development and the architect is IBI Group. Offered for sale for $7,995,000, is the world class Piedmont estate 395 Hampton Road, Piedmont.
