New Silicon Valley Housing Advocacy Groups Get Focused

Anian Tunney, Piedmont CA Real Estate Agent Broker Associate shares information about local housing shortage advocacy groups.

A number of Silicon Valley leaders are starting to see the possibility of political solutions for the housing shortage in the Bay Area, and as a result, a number of advocacy groups have been started to support these initiatives.

GrowSF, founded by Laura Clark, is a nonprofit that promotes affordable housing solutions in the Bay Area. The group wants to turn Silicon Valley workers into a block of voters and volunteers to bring about change in the housing situation with political solutions by supporting plans to increase affordable housing construction, focusing on building housing of 10 units or smaller.

RiseSF is another nonprofit with a high profile steering committee made up of tech executives, and funding from Facebook, Dignity Health and Laborers Local 261. Previously tech executives have focused on donating to local candidates and ballot measures. This new group may signify their interest in getting involved in core issues such as advocating for more housing units and keeping prices more affordable.
