Suspect Shoots at Oakland Police Officer Following Crash

The officer was taken to the hospital for treatment.

OAKLAND, CA — An Oakland police officer is recovering in the hospital after being shot at Saturday night after a vehicle collision, according to police.

Police spokeswoman Johnna Watson said an officer was responding to a call around 9:30 p.m. when they were involved in a collision in the 1900 block of 73rd Avenue.

Watson said after the collision, a male suspect approached the patrol vehicle and fired a round.

According to police, a bullet struck the patrol vehicle, however the officer was not struck by the gunfire.

The officer was taken to the hospital to be treated.
