Year of the African American Male Empowerment REsou

Last year, community leaders, my office, and I declared 2015 as the “Year of the African American Male” in response to the looming challenges that African American males face.

This Wednesday, March 23, 2016, we will host the Year of the African American Closeout Male Empowerment Resource Fair, from 2-7pm at the West Oakland Youth Center. This fair will feature workshops that address physical health, mental health, and workforce development needs for African American males.

With over 200 people expected to attend, this event will include health screenings and enrollment for Medical, Cal Fresh and other critical programs. The evening will finish with a free dinner and a special presentation led by former Black Panther Party members. Spread the word! We hope to see you then.
