Attempted Car Burglar Tried to Run Over Victims: Hercules Police

HERCULES, CA — Police arrested a man who allegedly tried to run over another man after the victim caught the suspect peering into his parked car Sunday evening in Hercules, according to police.
At 6:08 p.m., officers responded to a report of an attempted auto burglary in a parking lot at 3600 San Pablo Ave., police said.
The callers said that he and a friend were exiting Kinder's Meat Deli BBQ when they saw a man looking into his parked car.

The car contained a laptop and other valuables that were visible from outside, according to
police.

The victim and his friend began yelling at the suspect, telling him to get away from the car. The suspect then got into an awaiting white Honda Accord, which was parked next to the victim's car, police said.

The suspect then quickly put the Honda in reverse and backed up toward the victim and his friend. The two jumped out of the way, but the victim's friend was struck by the car's bumper, according to police.
The victim was able to give officers a description of the suspect and his vehicle's license plate number.

As officers were responding to the scene, they saw the suspect vehicle on Interstate Highway 80 near Willow Avenue. Officers were able to catch up with the suspect and pulled the Honda over near the 800 block of
Willow Avenue, police said.
After speaking with the driver, officers identified him as 22-year-old Dominic Amos of Richmond. Officers detained Amos, who they learned was on probation, as well as a 15-year-old passenger inside the car,
according to police.

After the victim and witness were able to positively identify Amos as the same man who was looking into the car and who tried to run them over, officers arrested him on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, probation violation and driving on a suspended driver's license, police said.
The juvenile passenger was released and Amos was booked into the Martinez Detention Facility, according to police.
