Deputies Seeking Suspect After Man Found Slain Near San Pablo

Authorities have issued a warrant for the arrest of Lamingo Johnson, a 45-year-old man, sheriff's officials said.

Deputies Thursday identified a suspect in the alleged homicide of a 54-year-old man at his home in an unincorporated area of San Pablo, officials said. Authorities have issued a warrant for the arrest of Lamingo Johnson, a 45-year-old man who resides in West Contra Costa County, sheriff’s officials said.

Deputies were dispatched just after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday on a report of a medical call in the 5700 block of Alpine Road, where they found a man dead in his house, according to sheriff’s officials. The sheriff’s office identified the man as 54-year-old Jay Welch.

Investigators believe Johnson targeted Welch and that the crime was not random, sheriff’s officials said. No other details about the case, including a possible motive or the manner in which Welch died are being released at this time, sheriff’s spokesman Jimmy Lee said.
