Why Go: From the lab to your lips, join Chabot as it hosts Fenton’s Creamery and Peet’s Coffee & Tea for a day of kitchen chemistry. Chabot’s teen volunteers, the Galaxy Explorers, will lead edible and inedible concoctions and demonstrations as visitors observe the chemical transformations.

Why Go: Enjoy beer tasting from several breweries and free music from Tommy Castro and other blues acts.

3. Guided Nature Walk with Deborah Bartens
Where/When: Lynch Canyon Open Space, Vallejo; Saturday 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
Why Go: Look for birds, butterflies, dragonflies, lizards and mammals. Enjoy the beautiful views. Get fresh air and healthy exercise.
Cost: $5 per vehicle parking
4. Summer Sounds in the Park
Where/When: Fernandez Park, Pinole; Thursday 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Why Go: Start the weekend early on Thursday night with Vocal-ease, who perform music from the 1940s, ‘50s, and ‘60s. Bring a blanket and the whole family can enjoy the park.

4. Stargazing
Where/When: Foxboro Park, 1025 Canterbury, Hercules; Saturday at dusk
Why Go: The public is invited to explore and learn the night sky through large and small telescopes and binoculars, with assistance from local amateur astronomers. Come and enjoy the experience of great nights under the stars.
