Why Go: Be there for a whole day of free music, crafts, food, games and, at 9:30 p.m., fireworks. Valet bike parking and revelers encouraged to bring their own dishes and napkins. I'm not kidding.

3. Summer Movies at Chabot Space & Science Center
Where/When: Chabot Space & Science Center, Oakland; Friday at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Why Go: Fridays are documentaries, and this week's is Coral Sea Dreaming—Awaken. A vivid, in-depth exploration of one of the planet's great natural wonders — coral reefs — which harbor the greatest biodiversity of any ecosystem on earth.

Where/When: Alameda County Fairgrounds, Pleasanton; Friday, Saturday and Sunday: 10 a.m.-10 p.m.
Why Go: The fireworks show is Friday at 9:30 p.m. and viewable from the grandstands. The largest county fair in the area has tons of entertainment for children and adults, like carnival rides, a mini-tractor pull, pig races, a petting zoo and much more.
Pricing: Kids 12 and under free on Fridays; otherwise between $4-$10 admission

Where/When: , 7 N. Court St., Martinez; Saturday, 10 a.m.-noon
Why Go: Kids ages 5-12 are invited to participate in a morning of FREE fishing at the Martinez Marina. Bring your fishing rod and the organizers will supply the bait! Everyone who participates receives a prize. A parent or guardian must accompany all children and all must register by Thursday, June 30.
