2. Author Megan McDonald reads from her new book Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer
Where: , El Cerrito; Friday, 2 p.m.
Why Go: Meet the author who inspired the movie by the same name. After the reading, Megan will be signing copies of her books purchased at Barnes & Noble.

Where/When: McGee Avenue and Hearst Avenue Berkeley; Saturday, 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m.
Why Go: Bring your kids, bring your dog, bring your friend who doesn't bike much. This Geared 4 Kids four to five-mile mile flat ride is a monthly event open to the public, specifically for riders who are new to wheels, pedals, and gears. All riders are welcome, so if you're just looking for a relaxed weekend ride, it's also for you. It's a bike party for kids, complete with music to pedal to and stops along the way to share snacks, play and chat.

Where/When: Alameda County Fairgrounds, Pleasanton; Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m.-10 p.m.
Why Go: The largest county fair in the area continues, with tons of entertainment for children and adults, such as music, carnival rides, all kinds of food, a petting zoo and much more.
Pricing: Kids 12 and under free on Fridays; otherwise $4-$10 admission

Where/When: Lawrence Hall of Science, Berkeley; daily, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
Why Go: Explore their world like never before in Dinosaurs Unearthed. Scientists, engineers, and artists designed these creatures to be as lifelike as possible. The gigantic animals open their jaws, blink their eyes, move their limbs … and more. You will walk among roaring, stomping, realistic-looking animatronic dinosaurs, such as the Tyrannosaurus rex, Stegosaurus, Apatosaurus and many more.
