Hercules Police Investigating String of Catalytic Converter Thefts from Older-Model Toyotas
Police said eight residents reported thefts of catalytic converters between Friday and Wednesday.

Police are investigating a string of catalytic converter thefts from Toyota SUVs in Hercules, police said Thursday. Between Friday and Wednesday, eight residents reported thefts of catalytic converters from their Toyota Sequoias, 4Runners and Tacomas, police said.
Police said the thieves are targeting 1990 through 2005 models because the cars have higher chassis and the placement of the catalytic converters makes them easier to remove. Police are encouraging residents to invest in vehicle alarms or to secure the catalytic converter to the car by having an auto body shop install a metal “frame” around the converter.
Police are also urging residents to be vigilant about suspicious activity and to report any suspicious activity to the police.
