Suspect Arrested for Stealing Taxi in Fremont, Second Suspect Still at Large
The taxi was taken by a male and female customer when the cab driver stepped out of the car to make a phone call.

One of two suspects who allegedly stole a taxi cab at a grocery store in Fremont’s Warm Springs district on Tuesday evening has been arrested but the other is still at large, police said today. The taxi was taken by a male and female customer when the cab driver stepped out of the car to make a phone call while it was stopped outside the Safeway store at 46848 Mission Blvd. at about 6 p.m. Tuesday, according to police.
The suspects and the taxi weren’t initially located by police. But at about 8:40 p.m., an officer was sent to a Valero gas station in the Warms Springs area to investigate a report about the attempted use of a stolen credit card, police said. The suspects fled on foot but the description of them was very similar to the couple who allegedly had stolen the taxi earlier, according to police.
Police then found the stolen taxi near the Valero station and shortly afterward located a 19-year-old San Jose man and arrested him on suspicion of taking a vehicle without permission, authorities said. The man’s name was not immediately available from police.
