Jesus Christ Superstar Hits the Stage
Pinole's Andrew Humann plays lead role in rock opera performed by the Youth Musical Theater Company in Berkeley.
After an intensive four-week stretch of rehearsals, the Youth Musical Theater Company in Berkeley presents Jesus Christ Superstar on The Ashby Stage through July 30. Pinole's Andrew Humann plays the lead role of Jesus Christ.
The 1970s-era rock opera is a live theatrical enactment of the last week of Jesus of Nazareth’s life from the perspective of Judas Iscariot.
A cast of 29 performers, some as young as seventh graders, is led by Humann.

“YMTC has taken a handful of the Bay Area's fantastic talent pool and given them the chance to express themselves through theater, along with the help of an outstanding creative team and a seven-piece professional rock band that is ready to bring the house down,” Humann said.
Humann began his acting career at age 7 in Pinole. His favorite credits include You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown with the Pinole Community Players, Salt Plays: In the Wound with the Shotgun Players and Oliver! with the Berkeley Playhouse.

In his first show with YMTC, Humann would like the audience to “leave the theater reminded of how capable young people today are of putting together a professional show and telling a story not confided to our older peers,” he said.
General admission ticket are $22 general, $17 for seniors, and $12 for students under 22. Seats will be assigned at the door on a first-come, first-served basis.
