Magnitude 4.0 Earthquake Strikes East Bay

The ground shook at 6:49 a.m. Did you feel the earthquake, Pinole and Hercules?

The U.S. Geological Survey reports that a 4.0-magnitude earthquake shook the East Bay this morning at 6:49 a.m. The quake was located about a mile north of Piedmont and 3 miles southeast of Berkeley, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

BART trains have been delayed this morning as a result of the earthquake. BART officials said train service is recovering from 10-minute delays systemwide caused by the earthquake. Trains were stopped while crews inspected the tracks for possible damage.

In August of 2014, the North Bay Area was rattled by 6.0 magnitude earthquake centered just six miles southwest of Napa in American Canyon. A 4.0-magnitude earthquake in Fremont shook the East Bay in July.
