If Wednesday is an accurate indication, Mel's Diner will have a popular following at its new location on Fitzgerald Drive. About 25 people waited in line for the 11;30 a.m. grand opening. At least 50 customers streamed inside within 15 minutes or so, and by 11:30 some new arrivals had to wait to be seated.
The Art Deco-themed restaurant serves breakfast, burgers, sandwiches, salads, milk shakes and ice cream. It has a drive-through service window in addition to booth, table and counter seating inside.
Mel's, at 1388 Fitzgerald Drive, will be open 24 hours a day.
