Playhouse Presents The Producers

Local performers take on Broadway hit.

If the names Zero Mostel, Gene Wilder, Matthew Broderick or Nathan Lane ring a bell, it's likely you know about The Producers. The Pinole Community Players are bringing the Broadway and Hollywood hit to the local stage.

The play, about con artists trying to cheat investors out of money by producing a reviled play that glorifies Hitler and finds unexpected success, is a favorite for its irreverence, cynical characters and ridiculous premise. The original Mel Brooks musical comedy is shocking and amusing a third generation of audiences.

The local performances are 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays from June 17 to July 16. Matinees are 2 p.m. Sundays, July 3 and 10.
