The Great Escape: Become a Film Snob!

Get ready for the big day on Sunday

Your teens are holding a car wash at the high school Saturday. The grandparents volunteered to take the younger children to a movie Sunday afternoon. Your tweens take tap on Wednesday evening. It’s your time. Take it.

Each week, we’ll tell you about one great idea to give you a much deserved break, and make your life a little easier, maybe a whole lot easier.

With the “Superbowl for Chicks,” the Academy Awards, coming up on Sunday, treat yourself to a movie, or two or three. Berkeley’s Shattuck Cinemas is presenting 2011 Oscar-Nominated Live-Action Shorts.  The films run 94 minutes in total and have showtimes of 1 p.m., 5 p.m. and 9:10 p.m.

When do you ever get to see the movies in these categories? Yeah, just about never. Come out to see them and you can actually know if the Academy gave the statuette to the right film, such as Belgium’s “Na Wewe,”  (You, Too?), set in the 1994 Burundi civil war. Plus you can sound super snobby and impress your office mates with your extensive knowledge of the nominees.
