The Great Escape: Walking Through Time
Leave your diaper bag at home and take a trip to the past

How much do you know about your home town? If you live in Hercules or Pinole, there is a rich history to the area. Just knowing the history of the street and park names adds to your understanding of how Pinole has evolved from a turn-of-the-20th-century settlement to what it is today.
This weekend marks another of the Pinole Historical Society’s walking tours, this time a tour of the downtown area that ends at Antlers Tavern. Now who doesn’t like any event that ends at Antlers? Right?
Built in 1890, the beloved tavern has its own legacy in Pinole, some of which you will hear from owner Geoff Torretta.

The tour is one hour, 15 minutes long, and an easy walk down San Pablo Avenue. It meets at 12 p.m. at the northwest corner of San Pablo and Valley avenues and is free.
Pinole Historical Society Historian George Vincent will conduct the tour, which covers a two-block area of the business district.
