Blowback From Parks District On Windmill Decision
Older model wind turbines will be allowed to continue to operate, despite the high mortality rate for birds.

The Livermore Area Recreation and Park District Board is not pleased with a county decision to allow older-generation wind turbines to continue operating in the Altamont. The turbines have been found to destroy birds of prey, also known as raptors, particularly the golden eagle.
Studies have shown that newer generation wind turbines kill fewer birds.
The 500-acre summit of Brushy Peak Regional Preserve is in close proximity to the wind turbines. The preserve is owned and operated by LARPD.
