Pleasanton Police officials are investigating an officer-involved shooting that left one man dead Sunday morning after officers responded to a report of a burglar alarm at the Specialty Sales Classics on First Street.
According to police, just after 2 a.m. this morning, officers arrived at 4321 First Street and saw the suspect, described as an adult white male, in front of the business acting “agitated and aggressive.”

“After refusing the commands of the officers the male fled on foot back into the business,” Lieutenant Jeff Bretzing said in a statement. “Moments later he left the business from a broken window to the rear of the building and began running. An officer, who had been standing to the rear of the business, ran after the male. An altercation took place between the officer and the male, during which the officer fired his pistol hitting the male.”
Officials say the suspect, who has not yet been identified, was taken by ambulance to Eden Trauma Center where he later succumbed to his injuries. The officer was treated and released for minor injuries at Valley Care Hospital. The officer’s name has not yet been released.

“The Alameda County Coroner’s Office is assisting with identifying the male subject,” Bretzing said. “We are still in the early stages of the investigation and will release more specific information when we have it.”
Bretzing said this is the first officer-involved shooting in almost ten years for Pleasanton Police.
Many nearby residents said several streets were blocked and crime scene tape was up from Spring Street and toward Livermore. None of the businesses in the nearby Pleasant Plaza were able to open for business on Sunday.
In October of 2014, police officials cordoned off the Pleasant Plaza parking lot for an investigation after a man in his 20s was stabbed several times in front of a laundromat located at 4241 First Street. Full story here.
