BREAKING: Police Warn Residents of Pleasanton Mail Theft

Police officials discourage leaving mail in the box overnight.

PLEASANTON, CA: Several residents the area of Sterling Greens Circle and Dolores Drive in Pleasanton reported mail theft over the weekend, police officials said Tuesday. According to a post on the Pleasanton Police Facebook page, the thefts likely occurred sometime between 4 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. Saturday.

"The people responsible also took mail in Redwood City," police said. "Consider safeguarding your mailbox and not leaving mail overnight."

In nearby Livermore, police officials asked for the public's help solving several recent mail theft cases. According to a statement released by police in March, the suspects in Livermore have been targeting community mailboxes throughout the city.

"The typical reason that mailboxes are broken into is for the criminal to be able to perpetuate identity theft," Livermore Police official said in a statement. "Personal information can be gathered in a variety of ways, and mail theft is a popular method of doing so."
