Two-time GRAMMY Award-winning pianist, composer, and arranger Alan Broadbent joins renowned bassist Harvie S and acclaimed drummer Akira Tana for an evening of masterful jazz at Meyhouse Jazz.

Born in New Zealand, Broadbent has built a remarkable career spanning decades, celebrated for his lyrical touch, melodic imagination, and sophisticated approach to jazz. He is perhaps best known for his longtime work with Charlie Haden’s Quartet West, as well as collaborations with legendary artists including Woody Herman, Natalie Cole, Chet Baker, and Shirley Horn.

Broadbent has received two GRAMMY Awards for his arranging work: one for Natalie Cole’s recording of “When I Fall in Love” and another for Shirley Horn’s interpretation of Leonard Bernstein’s “Lonely Town.” His ongoing trio with Harvie S has produced three recordings for HighNote/Savant, and the two also collaborated on Broadbent’s sextet album Threads of Time, released in 2025. Broadbent is currently a Professor of Jazz Studies at NYU Steinhardt.

Harvie S is one of jazz’s most accomplished and versatile bassists, with a career that includes recordings and performances alongside Michael Brecker, Paquito D’Rivera, Chick Corea, Kenny Barron, John Scofield, Sheila Jordan, James Moody, Yusef Lateef, and The Manhattan Transfer, among many others.

Equally at home in straight-ahead jazz, Afro-Cuban and Brazilian music, and more exploratory settings, Harvie has appeared on more than 400 recordings as a sideman while releasing numerous albums as a leader and co-leader. A dedicated educator, he has taught at the Manhattan School of Music since 1982. His latest recording, Bright Dawn, was released on Origin Records.

Together with Akira Tana on drums, Broadbent and Harvie S bring decades of musical chemistry, artistry, and experience to the stage for an intimate evening of world-class jazz.
