Construction On AVHS's Eco-Friendly Solar Parking Lot To Begin
Work is expected to be completed in October, but PUSD officials said they are looking for ways to expedite construction.

PLEASANTON, CA — Construction is set to begin next week on Amador Valley High School's new eco-friendly solar parking structure, which promises to reduce the campus' carbon footprint, provide a long-term source of renewable energy and create covered parking for students. The lot, which is located on Santa Rita Road, will be re-oriented with safety improvements, including additional crosswalks, according to the Pleasanton Unified School District.
Work is expected to be completed in October, but PUSD officials said they are looking for ways to expedite construction. The construction schedule currently shows work will be ongoing through the first eight weeks of the 2019-20 school year. During that time a majority of the Santa Rita parking lot will be unavailable for parking, which means students will be forced to park off campus.
"We are confident that in working together with our school and broader community, our students will continue to be able to get to school safely while being kind and conscientious of our community neighbors during this time," according to a PUSD statement. "We will be sharing transportation and parking mitigation planning information throughout the summer and leading up to the 2019-2020 school year to assist in these efforts ..." In collaboration with the city of Pleasanton, PUSD has created a plan that outlines remote loading areas for student drop off and pick up. Although parking will be unavailable in the Santa Rita Road student lot, the drop-off and pick-up loop that borders the lot will be open. In addition, loading zones will be established on Del Valle Parkway, Black Avenue and Santa Rita Road adjacent to the aquatic center park. The PUSD said it is also collaborating with Wheels and other local public transportation partners to offer alternative options for students.
