Golden Apple Learning Store in Pleasanton Closing
The store has been in business for 36 years.

The last parent-teacher store in the East Bay will be closing its doors after struggling to compete with online retailers.
The Golden Apple Learning Store owner John MacDougall, who is the son of elementary teacher and store founder Barbara MacDougall, says the store will be closing on March 21.
âThe introduction of standardized test driven instruction has also hurt business recently,â MacDougall said. âThe Golden Apple started in San Ramon in 1979 and has been operation in Pleasanton since 1990.â

MacDougall currently lives in San Francisco, but grew up in Danville, and is hopeful the closure will not be the denouement of the Golden Apple.
âIn a few days weâre planning to start a CrowdTilt in hopes that we can raise enough money from the community to re-open in a location that works better for us.â
