PLEASANTON, CA — Pleasanton City Councilmember Julie Testa announced her candidacy Tuesday for another term on the council to represent the newly-formed District Three in the November election.

Testa, who has served on the council since 2018 and lived in Pleasanton for 34 years, said in a statement that her main platform is improving the city’s quality of life and promoting “reasonable growth.”

“Over thirty years ago my husband and I moved to Pleasanton to raise our family. I love belonging to a ‘village’ where neighbors care, truly care, helping and sharing with each other,” she said. “My role on the council is to retain what we value in our amazing community for our next generation of families!”

Testa said she wants to push back against “state overreach” mandating new housing. “The state has mandated exponential housing growth across the state,” she said. “Pleasanton is committed to reasonable growth focusing on needed low-income housing, but we can and must push back on state overreach.”

Testa has served four years on the Pleasanton City Council, including as vice mayor in 2021. She also represents Pleasanton on more than 10 regional boards and subcommittees, including the East Bay Division of the League of California Cities and the Tri-Valley Affordable Housing Committee.

During her time on the council, Testa helped launch the new Alternative Response Program, which provides mental health clinicians to respond to designated emergency calls.
