Livermore-Pleasanton Firefighters Battling Detwiler Fire

BREAKING: The massive Mariposa County wildfire is about 10 percent contained.

MARIPOSA COUNTY, CA — The massive Detwiler Fire has charred 70,096 acres and is only 10 percent contained since it started Sunday afternoon. The blaze, which is being fueled by dry grass and brush, started in the area of Detwiler and Hunters Valley roads on July 16. Fire officials said 45 structures have been destroyed and 1,500 are currently threatened.

Eight Livermore-Pleasanton firefighters and eight Alameda County firefighters join more than 3,200 firefighters from all over California, along with local law enforcement, to battle the fire burning near Yosemite National Park. More than 5,000 residents have evacuated.

Yosemite remains open but park officials have warned visitors of poor air quality.

  • EV Free Church, 50443 School Rd. in Oakhurst
  • Sierra Vista Presbyterian, 39696 HWY 41 in Oakhurst
  • Cesar Chavez Middle School, 161 Plainsburg Rd. in Planada
  • Mountain Christian Center 40299 HWY 49 in Oakhurst
  • Sonora Fair grounds, 220 Southgate in Sonora

Large animals have been evacuated to the Coarsegold Rodeo Grounds located at 44777 Rodeo Grounds Ln. in Coarsegold. Small animals are being accepted at the EV Free Church located at 50443 School House Road in Oakhurst and Cesar Chavez Middle School, 161 Plainsburg Road in Planada.

Cal Fire officials said the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
