Ferris wheels, fair food, cotton candy and music every day? If spending your days working at the fair sounds like a dream come true, you are in luck. The fair is now hiring for the 2015 season. Alameda County Fair spokesperson Angel Moore says the fair hires almost 500 employees from around the county each summer.
“Most of our employees work part-time during the fair; allowing plenty of time to enjoy the fair after work,” Moore said. “Employees range in age from 16 to 80.”

Moore says the fair employees are often families who have a long tradition of working for the fair.
“We have many families who have grown up working at the fair,” Moore told Patch. “There are families who showed animals with 4-H as young kids and now work here. We have parents whose first job was working at the fair and their children are working at the fair as their first jobs.”

According to Moore, there are several families in which every child has worked at the fair.
“Laura Magee, who is in her ninth year at the fair, belongs to one of those families,” Moore said. “Her brother started at the fair as teenager, followed by her sister and now Laura. She loves the relationships which have grown over the years with the fair employees and our management team. She feels welcomed and loves the fact that she is asked for updates on her siblings.”
Moore says many college students returning home go back to the fair over summer break to work year after year.
“We have a few employees who started here as teenagers, worked several summers and are now full time in Accounting, Events, and Human Resources,” Moore said.
