Pleasanton Man Seriously Injured In Fiery Car Crash

His car rolled over multiple times in San Ramon Thursday night, police said.

PLEASANTON, CA — A 19-year-old Pleasanton man was seriously injured Thursday night after his car crashed in San Ramon, rolled over multiple times and caught fire.

He suffered major injuries to the lower portion of his body and was flown to Eden Valley Medical Center, where he underwent surgery and was recovering in the intensive care unit.

San Ramon police officers learned of the crash around 6:45 p.m. and arrived two minutes later to find a two-door Nissan coupe had rolled over and hit a tree near Dougherty Road and Oak Valley Drive, said Capt. Denton Carlson in an email. The engine had caught fire and the driver was pinned inside, alone.

Officers extinguished the fire and the San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District worked to extricate the driver for more than two hours, he said.

Drivers were asked to avoid the area. The roads were reopen by 1:15 a.m. Friday.

Police are still investigating the cause, but they do not believe drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
