Pleasanton Man Who Traveled Abroad For Underage Sex Due In Court

David John Telles, Jr., faces up to 30 years in prison.

PLEASANTON, CA — A Pleasanton man who used the internet to lure a 14-year-old girl and then traveled to England to have sex with her is due to be sentenced this month, court documents show. David John Telles, Jr. was convicted Oct. 29 by a federal jury of online enticement of a minor, travel with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct, and engaging in illicit sexual conduct with a minor in a foreign place. He faces up to 30 years in prison during his June 18 sentencing by U.S. District Judge Jeffrey S. White.

According to prosecutors, Telles used an online messaging app to groom the girl for weeks before he traveled to England with the intent to sexually abuse her in June of 2014. After arriving in England, the 38-year-old took the girl to two different hotels where he sexually abused her over the course of two days, prosecutors said.

The investigation into Telles began when Homeland Security Investigations received a request for assistance from the Devon and Cornwall Constabulary in the United Kingdom in locating the missing 14-year-old, prosecutors said. HSI arrested Telles on October 20, 2016, at San Francisco International Airport, following his deportation from the United Kingdom after police there took him into custody, according to prosecutors.
