PUSD, Teachers Union Resume Contract Negotiations
The two parties are hoping to reach an agreement before December, when they are scheduled to appear before a state-appointed mediator.
PLEASANTON, CA — The Association of Pleasanton Teachers agreed to restart negotiations with the Pleasanton Unified School District over next year’s contracts, PUSD announced Monday.
On Oct. 24, the APT union declared an impasse in negotiations over contracts for the upcoming year. The APT requested a 15-percent salary increase, as well as full coverage of medical insurance premium costs, reduced class sizes, and reduced caseloads for special education teachers. An impasse was declared after the union rejected PUSD’s counterproposal, which offered a 6.5 percent raise, increased stipends for dual language immersion teachers and special education teachers, and coverage of healthcare premiums for employees, but not their dependents.
After an impasse, the dispute will be mediated by a state mediator assigned by the Mediation and Conciliation Service of the Public Employee Relations Board, according to PUSD. Mediation is currently scheduled for Friday, Dec. 15 unless the two parties reach an agreement before then.
