Pleasanton Home Depot Employee Killed In Shooting: Reports

Pleasanton police say a man was shot Tuesday afternoon while trying to stop a theft in progress.

PLEASANTON, CA — A Home Depot employee shot Tuesday while trying to stop a theft from the store later died from his wounds, according to multiple reports.

The Pleasanton Police Department said the shooting happened at the Home Depot at 6000 Johnson Drive in Pleasanton at about 2:15 p.m. Tuesday. The Pleasanton Police Department said in a news release that it has detained suspects seen driving away from the scene immediately after the shooting.

Police were dispatched at about 2:15 p.m. One victim was found bleeding near the rear of the store. Officers treated the victim, and he was transported to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley, according to Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department Chief James Artman. The victim, whose name has not been released by the coroner's bureau, later died.

Witnesses told police that the victim attempted to stop a theft in progress. A struggle ensued, and the man was shot.

Agencies were notified of a description of the vehicle seen driving away. At about 2:30 p.m., deputies from the Alameda County Sheriff's Office located the vehicle and detained the suspects near the 7000 block of Ney Avenue in Oakland.

The Pleasanton Home Depot also made news in March 2015 when a security officer was hit by a car in the parking lot. Police believed it was an intentional act to help a robbery suspect escape. As a loss prevention officer confronted a woman in the parking lot, a car reportedly ran into him and knocked him over. The officer received an injury to his knee, and several scrapes and bruises.
