Pleasanton Youth Stay Active During Spring Break
Here's a glimpse of how young Pleasantonians are staying active during their week-long vacation.
Just because it's spring break doesn't mean young people in Pleasanton are taking it easy. Around town, there are plenty of sports camps and adventure programs that are keeping kids busy during their vacations.
City Naturalist Eric Nicholas runs Ridge Runner, which teaches kids about the outdoors. For the first time this year, the week-long program is taking place during spring break. Participants do arts and crafts, go on a hike and learn about the environment.
"It's designed to enhance coordination, and awareness, to build up self-esteem when you're away from mom and dad," Nicholas said.

On Tuesday, Nicholas and about 20 kids who are 6 and older hiked the trails of Augustin Bernal Park. The children also learned about the different wildlife and trees in the area.
Over at ClubSport Pleasanton, kids 5 to 13 years old were spending their week staying active. Spring break campers exercise, go rock wall climbing, and swim. There's also racquetball, tennis, volleyball and basketball. The only activity not allowed is being idle, said Dina Weir, junior programming director.

For older teens who were on spring break, the skate park at the Sports & Recreation Park was the perfect way to stay active and pass the time.
"Skateboarding is a great hobby, it's a constructive thing to do with your time," said Jackson Avery, a 19-year-old who goes to Las Positas Community College. "You don't need to have a coach or a team."
For these students, school resumes April 9.
