Sweet And Savory Closes After 26 Years In Pleasanton

High costs and lack of revenue led the business to close its doors, an owner said.

PLEASANTON, CA — After 26 years of serving breakfast, lunch and baked goods to Tri-Valley diners, Sweet and Savory has closed. The restaurant at 5685 Gibraltar Drive opened closed Christmas Eve 2019, mostly due to high costs and low revenues, said co-owner Don Eichler in an email.

Sweet and Savory opened April 1993 in a smaller space in Hacienda Plaza, Eichler said. The company expanded into its location two years later after a Domino's franchise left the area.

Eichler said several businesses have moved out of the immediate area in recent years and also pointed to changes in customers' preferences, such as online ordering. Changes in state policies such as minimum wage and paid sick leave laws also caused the business to take a hit, he said.

"We really want to thank the many customers we have had over the years," Eichler said, "some of whom have been with us since we first started."
